[SOLVED] No sound Dell Latitude D830 Mageia3 x86_64

I've done a completely clean install of Mageia3 x86_64 on a Dell Latitude D830. Everything seems OK with the exception of a complete lack of sound. Sound had been working on Windows prior and as a test it worked booting to a Knoppix disk.

Hi,
May be Kmix is on "mute" or very low.
Click on the loudspeaker near the clock and have a look on the "Capture Devices" tab. what does he say ?

I've already looked at that it was originally at about half volume, I've moved it most of the way up. It wasn't muted, but I did mute and unmute it just to see if that would do something.

Did you check PulseAudio ?
Playback tab / system sounds where is the slider ? If you launch Amarok for example, and ask it to play something, do you see new sliders to appear ?
Output Devices tab, do the parameters seem good ? Amarok still running, do you see the bargraph ?
Configuration tab, you can try some profiles, on a DELL Latitude D630, I have Analog Stereo Duplex.
You could focus on the system sounds first. You can play them in the KDE settings.

That seems to be it. I changed the profile to Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output + Analog Stereo Input. Now I have sound. I wasn't aware of the PulseAudio Volume Control until you mentioned it. I had seen the same profile settings in the KDE settings, but they didn't make a difference there.
