HD audio with VIA VT1828S chipset on Asus P7P55D input (mic)

HD audio with VIA VT1828S chipset on Asus P7P55D input (mic)

Postby mtparet » Apr 6th, '11, 19:42

It is same probleme as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/474359

Play sound works but input doesn't work...
In pulseaudio panel I can see three input (2mic and 1 line) but no sound is recording.

I tried desactivated pulseAudio.

If you have any idea to solve it ...
Is it a problem with configuration, packaging or alsa ?

On the konsole (shell, bash ...) try "alsamixer"

Select your card with F6

Are the input channels there?
If yes, adjust input level.

Mostly, it should work.

(Sorry for my bad english ...)

Bernd

Edit: If there are no input channels, your hardware is not fully recognized ...
Now after my words of profound wisdom, I'm going back to procrastinating.

Thanks for your answer.

In alsamixer, I see input channels (mic, front mic, line, CD, stereo mixer)

I adjust input level to max.
When I play music on my computer, I can see in the alsamixer gui that there is sound in "analog ouput" and in "stereo mixer" (an internal input channel)

But when I plug an ouput source (micro, piano) in line, mic or front mic, there is no sound ...

In alsamixer, is there a channel called "capture" or something along those lines? That needs to be activated for any of the input channels to work.

Sorry for the delay in reply. I don't see how to st the mic for capture in alsamixer. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. I have my mic checked for capture via Kmix where it shows up as a check box next to each input channel. These are only visible when pulse is disabled in MCC.

There is also a Mandriva bug for this for a very similar VIA audio chip:

The same here.
I always manage to configure recording right in other distro's (and I have some on partitions here), but I did not yet succeed in Mageia.
Is there something missing, which maybe will be updated? 8-)

@rijnsma: you filed https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1624? (or posted to it?).

If not, could you post the output of the commands I mentioned in my last comment in that bug?

No Ahmad.
And I have Mageia now only as an image-backup.
I saw wattOS. It is fantastic. I temporarilly put in the place of Mageia.
In some months I will try again on another partition. ;)
Thanks for answering! :)

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with the same card.
No signal from microphone - neither in Skype nor in sound recorder. I am not sure if it ever worked since I have not used Skype for quite a while, but I do think it worked when I installed Skype and checked it.
I am pretty sure it was OK in Mandriva 2010.2 that I had used before Mageia 1.
As of now, only ALSA is in use, Pulse is deactivated (and pulse-server and its plugins are removed). But even with running Pulse there was not any signal from the microphone.
I tried to change any possible settings, but no luck - just silence and sometimes a kind of humming noise, but nothing like speech.
Here are my ALSA settings.
I am running Mageia 1 64bit on Asus P50IJ with all-intel chipset (apart from network).
Would appreciate any help - looks like I'll need Skype soon.

Thank you.

P.S. It looks like that the system lacks something... should it be alsa-tools or alsaconf?

UPD. I took a look at the similar bug for Mandriva - I do not have Smart 5.1 available via KMix, but it is in alsamixer window. However, it is ON all the time and I can't mute it (M command doesn't work for it).
UPD 1. It works. Just switched there and back gstreamer and xine backends in sound settings and was able to mute Smart 5.1 in alsamixer. Now the microphone is OK. Still, everything looks quite buggy, but at least I know now who caused the problem.

Are any of you guys using a mixer at all? Kind of funny for me that audio clicks on and off when I switch on my phantom power...
So thankful that I am now able to work in this industry. Because I was able to be discovered through various IT staffing companies I am now happier than ever. Thanks to the tech community for being so welcoming as finally my nerdy dreams have come true

Gnome-alsamixer is more convenient.
