MPD Errors

MPD Errors

Postby saptech » Jun 9th, '11, 10:17

I just started messing around with mpd (Music Player Daemon), and keep getting error message about line 9 of the /etc/mpd.conf file when I run the command mpc as user and root. I also get a 'connection refused' message when I type mpd as root and user.

I'm at work and can't remember exact error message, but line 9 is related to the error log.

Does anybody use it or have any idea what could be the issue? I can have more details when I'm home.

Thnx.

I don't know anything about MPD but I tried to install it to see if I had the same problem, and I had this displayed after doing urpmi mpd:

Code: Select all
[root@localhost akien]# urpmi mpd

    $MIRRORLIST: media/tainted/release/mpd-0.16.2-2.mga1.tainted.i586.rpm
installation de mpd-0.16.2-2.mga1.tainted.i586.rpm depuis /var/cache/urpmi/rpms
Préparation ...                  ##########################################################################################################
      1/1: mpd                   ##########################################################################################################

This package of MPD comes with service capabilities and will automatically start
at boot.

You now have to edit your /etc/mpd.conf file, check the different options to
adapt them to your needs (pay attention to the password section). You can
leave log_file, error_file, db_file, and state_file options as they are. But
you MUST edit music_directory and playlist_directory to tell MPD where to grab
your music files, and don't forget to make them available to the user "mpd".
If you use passwords, please change permissions of this file to 600
(passwords are in clear plain text).

If you DON'T want MPD to start at boot (to let users have different
configuration, for example), just disable the service via the Mandrake Control
Center, or by running "chkconfig --del mpd" as root.

Note: if your msec level is 3 or above (this should be the case for any machine
connected to the internet), the service will fail to start. In order to
make it start at boot, you need to do this :

* get root privileges edit /etc/security/console.perms
near the end of the file you'll see a line looking like this :
<console>  0600 <sound>      0600 root.audio

just change the permissions to 0660 to obtain this line :
<console>  0660 <sound>      0660 root.audio

Save the file and exit your editor.

MPD has now the right to access sound devices, as all users from the audio
group.

I see two interesting things: the critical error while creating the database and the end "Note".

Maybe your "Connection refused" problem has something to do with the note in the end?
I get the same errors as you (except your interverted them I suppose):

Code: Select all
[akien@localhost ~]$ mpc
error: Connection refused
[akien@localhost ~]$ mpd
unrecognized parameter in config file at line 9: error_file

You can try to do what's explained in the note, and if there's still an issue, file a bug report at bugs.mageia.org.

What is there at line 9 of this mpd.conf that generates an error?
Most probably some parameter like:

Code: Select all
bind_to_address       "127.0.0.1"

Maybe try "localhost" instead, or.........................

Thanks for the replies. Line 9 is showing this for mine:

error_file "/var/log/mpd/mpd.error"

It does exist but never have any messages in it. I did switch the bind_to_address to the local IP numbers, no change.

Akien, I don't remember seeing that message but I can try doing what the NOTE section mention. I'll keep everyone informed of the progress when I get time to try it.

Thnx.

I'm not sure what is going on but I get these messages when I run the commands.
Code: Select all
[saptech@sappy ~]$ mpc
error: Connection refused
[saptech@sappy ~]$ mpd
unrecognized parameter in config file at line 9: error_file

I'm giving up for now, since I've installed MOC and it's working fine. I will keep trying mpd also.

Thnx.
