You should just install the package dkms-vboxadditions inside your guest and then reboot the guest, that should do it.
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Hello, I found a working solution to the no sound problem running Mageia 2 in Virtualbox 4.1.18r78361.

Configure Mageia 2 in the VB settings to use AC97 for audio.
Start up Mageia 2 (you will have no sound yet).
Go into System Settings and choose Multimedia in the Hardware section.
Select Phenon from the left column.
Click on the Audio Hardware Setup tab (2nd tab of 3).
In the Connector setting select LFE on Separate Mono Output / Amplifier.
Apply that and voila you have sound in Mageia 2 running in VB.

Note: This is a work around for a Mageia 2 bug with the Intel motherboard chipset.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit host on a Gigabyte P55-UD3R motherboard which has Intel 5 series chipset and Realtek HD audio.
Realtek audio: vendor id = 10EC subsys = 1458A002
Running Mageia 2 64-bit.

You are welcome zarriz.
BTW, I just posted on problems I'm having getting KDE 4.8.2 to work properly in VB. I'm interested in knowing if you have had success with themes or not. Thank you.

I confirm that it is working on Mageia 2 - GNOME 3.4.1
The steps are a little different to reach LFE on Separate Mono Output / Amplifier. in GNOME.
Applications -> PulseAudio Volume Control -> Output Devices (3rd tab) -> Port
Good job cracker42

I have XFCE installed on Mageia2 as guest in Virtualbox running on Win7 on an Intel i5 architecture. I can't get audio. I've tried to find the equivalent XFCE settings to the above directions but to no avail. Closest I've found is Mageia button // Sound & Video // More // Mixer - then I've added all the controls to all the settings there. I still don't see anything I can figure equivalent to settings mentioned above in the Solution. Does any kind soul out there have any experience with this? Perhaps there is a terminal command? or a text file that can be adjusted?

ok I found it now: in XFCE Mageia2 environment within VirtualBox -to fix sound try this Mageia // Sound & Video // PulseAudio Volume Control // Output Devices // Port // "LFE on Seperate Mono Output / Amplifier"

solved!
