gmplayer starts with volume at zero

gmplayer starts with volume at zero

On Mageia 1 with KDE. I can run MPlayer from a konsole and volume is at 33%. If I run gmplayer, the volume is zero, with the volume slider at minimum. I can turn it up, but next time it will be zero again. Is this a setting I can configure?
