Some more details would be appreciated ...
What Mageia release do you use, and what desktop environment ? Also, please post the output of the following commands, run as your regular user

Code: Select all
LC_ALL=C systemctl --user status pulseaudio.socket pulseaudio.service -al
LC_ALL=C getfacl /dev/snd/*
lspcidrake -v
LC_ALL=C aplay -l
LC_ALL=C pacmd ls
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

How are your speakers connected? Via the normal, analog 3.5mm jack ?
Because the default output seems to be the digital S/PDIF output, and the analog output does not seem to be available.
Also seems like you switched the monitor at some point, because currently default monitor is the digital one ("Monitor of Built-in Audio Digital Stereo (IEC958)"), but the analog one, which should be the default, has a higher priority.

You can see it more easily via

Code: Select all
pacmd list-sources | grep -iE "name:|index:|device.string"
pacmd list-sinks | grep -iE "name:|index:"

What happens if you boot one of the previous kernels ?

Yes, I bought a new monitor this one has a DVI, a VGA and a 3.5mm jack, though I use the HDMI on the video card (with a converter on the monitor). I thought if I did a fresh installation the settings would configure themselves and I've done that even changing the partitions to with /user now. On booting a different kernel, once I was able to, but now on plasma, I can't think how.
Currently, an ASUS MiniPC with M9 I installed.

Sorry, I still don't understand how your speakers are connected currently. Do you use the integrated speakers from the monitor?

And booting a different kernel - there's no relation to what desktop environment you're using. You can choose a kernel from the bootloader, when the boot starts.

My Speakers are integral with the monitor well that probably means they're just in the same case. Do you think the kernel might be the problem? I do remember a different kernel being installed recently. The system is running a little faster. If this kernel is responsible for that speed. If this kernel runs fast on my system but stops the sound working I'll have to think. The best option would be keeping this kernel, but getting the sound working some other way. I do remember a few years ago if you logged on as root you'd see a list on the left starting with Hardware, Network down to boot. If it is the kernel then the next time the kernel is updated my system will stop being quiet.

Booting a different kernel was easy, but I'd never noticed how. Key down the advanced section of the boot page. As I've done a clean install will there be many?

It looks like my motherboard's bios has broken so it probably wasn't seeing the sound circuit.
I've ordered a startech 7.1 channel sound card, hopefully, it uses a different driver. I had to change the Graphics card to make room for it
