VLC v2.2.2 upgrade to v2.2.3 breaks WAV audio support MGA5

Hey Everyone,
I don't know if this is the right section to post this, mods feel free to move it to the proper place.

Upgrading from VLC v2.2.2 (Weatherwax) or earlier versions to VLC v2.2.3 (Weatherwax) breaks the ability to play WAV audio files that run at sample rates of 8KHz for example. Downgrade back to the previous version and it works once again. When trying to play the WAV file in VLC (v2.2.3), the program crashes out, no output or crash dialog either. I can't imagine that VLC would drop support for WAV files, I don't know if that would be a bug in recent VLC code or something else that happened in the upgrade package. I noticed this after my voicemails that are sent in WAV format to my e-mail became unplayable after the update.

The exact WAV format is this:
Codec: PCM MU-LAW (mlaw)
Channels: Mono
Sample Rate: 8000 Hz
Bits per Sample: 16

Thanks for the feedback and help!

I have noticed similar issues with VLC in the past, sometimes new versions break support for less common formats.

Is that a newer version than the current Mageia 5 build? Thanks for the heads up!
