[Solved - sort of] ALSA conf file?

[Solved - sort of] ALSA conf file?

Postby petedan10 » May 18th, '16, 22:40

I would like to change the routing so sound goes to the headphone output instead of the front speakers. Which is the conf file I have to edit for these changes?

Select the headphones as preferred output using your desktop environment's mixer, or using pavucontrol should work fine.

I couldn't find a setting under pavucontrol to fit the quirks of my soundcard, so I ended up editing /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf. I am not sure this was the correct way to do it, but it did the trick and everything works fine now.

I also found that changing settings under /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets didn't seem to affect anything, at least given my limited experimentation (though it's usually the place to go in other distributions).
