I recently upgraded from Mageia 4 to Mageia 5 using the LiveDVD KDE4 x86-64. Prior to the upgrade the sound worked perfectly but after the upgrade there is no sound. I am using MATE, KDE4 and Gnome. Help me get my sound on!!!

How did you upgrade using the LiveDVD? The live media are not meant for upgrades and that's not supported:

Let me restate that I installed Mageia 5 using the LiveKDE4 DVD. I then individually selected the rpm packages for MATE and Gnome.

So first please try with KDE. Login, and then right-click on kmix icon (volume control) in systray and select "select main channel" or whatever it's called in english.
Check that there the correct output (usually analog if you use the 3.5 mm lineout or headphone jack is selected, if not select it).
Then right-click again, and click on "audio setup" (which takes you to systemsettings => multimedia) and switch to the tab "setup of audio hardware"
and check that there also the correct device and profile is selected. In the bottom half there's also a sound test, with a test button for every speaker.
Do you hear sound when you click the buttons?
And what audio setup do you have? E.g. integrated laptop speaker, standalone 2.0 speakers attached to 3.5mm lineout jacket, ... ?

No luck using your instructions. My audio setup is two external speakers from audio out jack from computer. This exact setup worked perfectly using Mageia 4.

Please show the output of the following commands, but please run them as normal user and NOT as root
- Code: Select all
systemctl --user status pulseaudio.socket pulseaudio.service
pulseaudio --check
pactl --stat
pactl list cards
pacmd list-sinks
getfacl /dev/snd/*
And please next time use code tags as explained in
ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/mandriva/m ... e_tags.ogv as isadora mentioned already.

Looks all good so far.
When you have an application running that is playing sound, please run pavucontrol as normal user,
check the Playback and Output devices tabs, if you see a stream playing and if volume meter moves.
Under which device do you see that? Best make a screenshot of what it looks like. An example, with Chrome playing music:

Oops perhaps I spoke to soon I have no sound in mate, kde4, lxqt, xfce, cinnamon, and gnome. In order to eliminate the sound card and speakers I checked the sound in Windows 8.1 and it worked. I have no idea what is going on here.

Please use tagging where appropriate.
So, only [CODE]-tagging for command output, thanks.

Please show the "Output devices" tab of your mixer, and also the output of the following command, run as your normal user:
- Code: Select all
ls -al /run/user/$(id -u)/pulse

- Code: Select all
[bmoore@localhost ~]$ /usr/bin/kmix
