[SOLVED]rtl8188EUS and rtl8189ES driver

Postby sputnik » Mar 10th, '15, 20:23

Hello

Please help me with drivers for Netis WF 2119S USB WiFi card. Drivers are on CD but when run install.sh does lot of nothing. There is rtl8188EUS_rtl8189ES_linux_v4.1.1_4235.20120606.tar.gz which I don't now how to install (bash: ./config: No such file or directory).
I have tried instructions from previous post concerning Netis but it is a different problem.
I cant find Mageia or any .rpm version of drivers.

Thank you in advance

Best Regards

Seems the wireless adapter is not listed, can you please post the complete output of
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v

And please next time use code tags as explained in ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/mandriva/m ... e_tags.ogv

For the other part, the correct firmware packages seem to be already installed.

Re: rtl8188EUS and rtl8189ES driver

This is it:
sputnik wrote:usbhid : BTC|USB Multimedia Keyboard [Human Interface Device|Boot Interface Subclass|Keyboard] (vendor:046d device:c312)
|802.11n NIC (vendor:0bda device:8179)

The device IDs in parentheses are what I'm looking for.

Seems you device might have the same issues as "TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless N Nano USB Adapter TL-WN725N" which is offered for as low as 10€
but it is available in two versions, which are really hard to distinguish. One is pretty well supported, the other, which only appears as "0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp." might need a custom driver.

This is explained here (only in german) http://blog.pi3g.com/2013/05/tp-link-15 ... pberry-pi/
but at the bottom there are some links to the RaspberryPi forums where this issue was seen first IIUC.

It would be helpful if you could specify the exact make & model of what you called "Netis usb card".

My best bet would be: get a different device, it's not worth all the hassle for 10 to 20 bucks.
If you really want to use it, just tell me and I'll have a further look.

Thank you very much.

There is one 1/4 USB hub connected on which are mouse and keyboard.
Only model name data that I have on package and instructions is Netis 2119 S.
It was about 15 Eur, which isn't problem, I bought it because it is very small with attachable antenna (screw connector). I don't mind to buy another one. Sincerely I didn't pay any attention when I was buying because usually everything works on my Mageia (except WiFi connection with Canon Pixma ). I just hoped that something can be done with drivers from installation CD.
I will read instructions from the links you gave me, although I doubt that I will understand anything :-).

Thank you very much and Best Regards

Well, it might be possible to install the windows drivers via ndiswrapper, but that's not the same as using native drivers.

Maybe I can look tomorrow again for your card, it seems to be this one, right? http://www.netis-systems.com/en/Product ... s/860.html
Seems to be pretty uncommon, only further info I've found is https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Netis_WF2119S

After plugging it in, could you please show the output of the following command as root:
Code: Select all
journalctl -ab | grep -iE "fw|firmware|iwl|wifi|wire|80211|818|rtl"

Re: rtl8188EUS and rtl8189ES driver

Postby sputnik » Mar 11th, '15, 01:20

As I understand from other sources problems are caused by kernell, frame and driver. Usually for me it is "driver". I dont know if this may help you. Please do not find your self offended by my ignorance.
Thanks for your understanding and attention.

Postby MauRice » Mar 11th, '15, 22:15

Source-code for a kernel-module year 2012-06-06 is old, very old.
If your USB WiFi doggle won't work with the built-in staging kernel-module r8188eu ....

If you can find a newer version for this Realtek chip-set and familair with source-code patching....
You can look in these file's:
http://www.laptopke.be/files/%28S%29RPMs/
http://www.laptopke.be/files/Patches_Configs/

I have a Realtek USB Wifi doggle with a Realtek rtl8192eu chipsel (5 Euro's), source-code year 2014-05-05
With lot of RE and TAE source-code is patched even with kernel 3.19.0
Code: Select all

Mageia 5 had gcc version 4.9.2, you have to modify the Makefile with a EXTRA_CFLAGS line.
The built-in macro's for Date & Time gives a error:
Code: Select all
EXTRA_CFLAGS += -Wno-date-time

PS.
A USB Wifi doggle with a Realtek rtl8812au I don't have.
But hte source-code is very similar to that of the rtl8192eu.
You can see with the outcome of modinfo that both kernel-module are successfull built.

Good luck.

Re: [SOLVED]rtl8188EUS and rtl8189ES driver

Postby sputnik » Mar 12th, '15, 19:45

Greetings,

I have tried all advises with which I am not familiar
At the end I took TP-LINK model: TL-WN722N, ver: 1.10, serial number: 214A067019806, product number: 0152502010 for probation.
It works flawless. In the Network manager it shows : ATHEROS USB 2.0 WLAN-WLP0s29f7u4.
Another one (Netis 2119S) has the same model name TL-WN722N and It doesn't work also no LXLE linux with new kernel and drivers installed from Git by instructions from Ubuntu forums.
Everything is as Doctor described.

Thank you all.

Best Regards

It is common that some manufacturers use different chip-set in the same model / type USB WiFi doggle.
If the chip-set is supported by a kernel-module, than no problem.
If not .... than ....

So manufactory / model /type are "useless" with in Linux.
Better are chip-set and device ID with lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 058f:6362 Alcor Micro Corp. Flash Card Reader/Writer
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:818b Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

You can find a lot of info on the net with only de ID as search item.

Sputnik,

The terminal command i put in bold, and you don't have to be root:

Code: Select all
lsusb

Better use
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v
as it also shows the used driver and some more detailed information.
Although that one is Mageia specific, and lsusb is a generic command.
