Network problem with SMB shares

Postby digifi » Apr 28th, '14, 23:32

Hi !

Any got any good ideas what's going on with my system?
I was using Mandriva, and didn't have these problems, but now with Mageia 4...

The problem is, that I can't stream anything over my home LAN. Well, I can for awhile, but then things start to stutter.
Let's say that I want to watch an episode of some tv-series that I've got saved on my server.
I open the share, and play the episode on MPC. At first everything is fine, but then video stucks and seconds later whole MPC goes to "not responding" state.
This lasts from few seconds to minutes, and then I can watch the episode for 5 to 10mins before it's stuck again. Same thing happens if I try to skip ahead, or go back.

If I ping the server as I'm watching the episode, there aren't any problems. I can go forward and backwards with out a problem.

Can you attact the output of
Code: Select all
journalctl -xf
if you let that run while you're watching a stream?

Try to run this command both as user and as root (the outputs won't be the same and I'm not sure which one you'll need)

Best always run it as root, except if you added yourself to the systemd-journal group -> https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_4_Errata#journalctl

Disable shorewall or add exception for samba ports. This is how i stream my stuff to my WDTVLIVE media player...

See how:

Well... I stopped shorewall, might have improved performance a bit... but still freezing in streaming.

Only thing that is visible when running "journalctl -xf" is this :

That is about the samba server part, but your're running this on the samba client, right? Apart from that, it's only about the printer.
