Hi,

I try to share a folder from my main computer. I want to access it from my laptop.

My server is on mageia cauldron, my laptop on mageia 1.

So, I :
- shared a folder in my MCC with no restriction
- disabled my firewall

But, on both computer, when I try to research a server to access the share folder, the MCC doesn't see anything.

I would like to know if it is normal on the server to see nothing.
Do you have any idea on any reason for that ?

I already use the network connection with mysql 2 month ago, so my router is normally open.

Any guess or lead ?

Just tried this myself, and get the same results as you. A quick google search suggests this is a bug inherited from Mandriva: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=56779. I suggest you file a bug for Mageia.

In Mageia Control Centre>System>Services check the rpcbind service is running.

You 'may' then be able to see the exported shares.

This service is running, so that doesn't seem to be part of the issue.

Samba doesn't work too...
If the firewall is enable, you get nothing.
If it's not, you get part of the servers, but not all.

But with smbclient, I can detect and connect on them, so it's not a rooter issue.

Ok, it works now. I had the same hostname on all computer. Now, I changed in my network connection the names to be different and it works... without firewall but it's a good start.

I confirm that I'm able to connect to samba clients only if the firewall is disabled.
If the firewall is enabled I can't connect to the samba clients (either Windows or Linux).
This happens also if I enable the SMB service in the personal firewall ...

Isadora, surely I'll have a look to the link you've posted ...
Anyhow I have to admit I made an unintentional mistake.
I meant I can't connect from Mageia to Samba servers (either Windows or Linux), but only when the firewall is enabled
Please, take note that I don't have this problem running Fedora 15 in the same network.
And, anyway, I've checked the appropriate box in the Mageia MCC's firewall to allow the SMB connection.
May be the problem is related to:

or

I also don't have a "SMB client" check box in the firewall panel, but I have a more generic "file condivision" with Windows (SMB) check (which I think is absolutely correct) ...
Totally disabling the firewall allows connections to Linux or Windows servers from the Mageia PC via SAMBA ...
