Using phone as router for notebook

Postby disegnoarch » Nov 28th, '13, 15:26

Hello everyone, I apologize but I do not know where to post the question. A friend of mine wants to use the phone Samsung GTS 5570L as a ruouter for a notebook (HP compaq) on which is installed mageia 3.
Does anybody know give me directives?

Create an wireless access point on the phone, and connect to that access point on Mageia.

In my android phone this can be done in settings -> Wireless & networks -> more -> Tethering & mobile hotspot -> enable mobile wifi hotspot. You can also use USB-tethering or bluetooth-tethering, but haven't tried that yet.

Another option, if you're using android, is to run easytether. There's a basic version available for free, or a $10 (US) version which includes ssl/udp connections.

Install easytether on your phone, and download the fedora drivers (drivers are sent as .rpm). Follow the setup wizard on the android side. Install the drivers on your notebook. Once you run the "easytether connect" on your notebook, you can use MCC to configure a new network interface. Easytether0 will appear under "wired."

Works beautifully for me!

FWIW, if you're running Cyanogenmod or any of the non-stock ROMs no need for that, as described above.
