Samba: no "smbd [version number] started" message appears

Hello.

We use Mageia 3; 64 bits, inside an ethernet local network whose router reserves IP addresses for each computer according to the MAC address. Fed up with many things freezing because of NFS or/and autofs, we installed Samba server (choosing "Standalone", then "user" as security mode) and client on 2 PCs, and configured the firewall to let the other computer access to Samba.
Since we cannot see the other computers' files, I followed the fault tree described there: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch12.html. Low level IP works (in fact NFS works between the 2 computers). Although lftp is quiet, since no error appears, I guess it means it works and proves that TCP works. In /etc/samba/smb.conf, the log level is set to 3. Then I reach the paragraph "Tracking daemon startup" of the fault tree, but cannot find, in /var/log/samba/smbd.log, the message
smbd version number started
, though in 'Mageia control center' → "Manage system services by enabling or disabling them" → smb, I read "running". Is it normal? Here are the smb.conf and smbd.log files after I deleted the old smb.log file, and in 'Mageia control center' → "Manage system services by enabling or disabling them" → smb (tagged "running"), clicked on "start" and got the message "Restarting smb (via systemctl): [OK]".

Thank you in advance.

Look at my reply to the following posting: viewtopic.php?f=25&p=41223#p41223 . Not seeing files on another computers samba shares can be related to this issue. You may try to change your mounting options in /etc/fstab.
