No Wireless help needed

Postby EvilJester91 » Jun 20th, '13, 10:58

First off im using my phone so sorry if there are any spelling mistakes or abit of text talk (force of habit)

Anyways ive just installed mageia 3 (32bit) using a bootable usb stick after downloading the english only torrent file from the main site

Up on installation i unchecked the remove unused packages (something along those lines) installation went fine but i have no wireless ive got a BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY card.

Normally i just have to activate the card when using other distros but i just cant figure out how to get it to work on mageia

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks

i dont have this card, but i have a broadcom nic in my desktop, and I know with that i always have to add the firmware to
mageia to get it working, this is quite common with all broadcom hardware.

and im trying to answer this from work where i dont have my mageia 3 stuff, so you need to follow my suggestions and check/verify.

are the tainted and nonfree repos on the DVD? i cant remember, mount it and check, and also the question did you
click on the tainted and nonfree repos during install.

It could be that they are not on the DVD and a network connection is required at install time to download those firmware add ons, again i did not check when i did my mageia 3 test install.

is it possible to attach you laptop to the net without wireless (usb or on board 10/100 nic for example).

in dmesg ( a command you run through a terminal) you may see a message about missing firmware which might confirm what im suggesting.

I m sure this card is supported as there are similar posts with it working.
