Hi, I searched this forum for some answers and found Rodgoslin post very similar to my problems with the same messages received. Prior to this I tried to resolve the problems using the response to another members's post.
which was basically the same as Rodgoslin's .
Open MCC and configure your wireless device so that it's controlled by NetworkManager.
3. Reboot.
4. Right click on the small icon in the bottom right corner that shows you hidden icons and choose settings.
5. If needed unlock widgets.
6. Mark the checkbox that enables network configuration.
7. You should see new icon that enables you to configure networks.
But this did not appear to work but perhaps i failed to execute it correctly, as because of the wired connection a little applet is already there, and i was able to go to network connections from this. I had also tried setting everything to auto install, with & without the network manager being ticked, and also manually setting with & without the network manager being ticked.
I had difficulty getting my onboard wireless card to work in M2 but had no problems with my usb dongle.
In view of this I tried the realtec dongle and initially had problems because, not having the internet I had not downloaded the packages for my laptop. The message I received then was: RTLwifi Firmware not available File missing /lib/firmware/rtwifi/rt|8192sefw.bin After installing the packages I still did not get the internal wifi card working.
and the usb realtec dongle produced this message: Unable to find network interface for selected device. looked in Hardware and the driver was listed as RTL8191s not RT8192 (the missing file) I then went to RPM distributions and found Wifi radar 2.0 508-3mga3 noarch rpm for mageia i586 and installed this. if this is not correct can you please tell me where to look for the network interface/driver thanks.
Internal wifi card Atheros AR242x/Ar542x.
Also the ethernet wired connection works perfectly, however i dont know if I should have it connected while trying to connect either of these wifi cards. Please advise thanks.
