[SOLVED] Wireless G Cards?

OK, maybe someone can help me. I've installed Mageia 2 on a computer for a friend of mine and she wants to get a wireless card for it. She is also getting a Linksys WRT54G router which I know works well with linux, but not sure what pci card to get. Can someone please give me the brand and model that will be the easiest to configure? Any help on this would be Greatly Appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

I've only used wireless in notebooks, so can't recommend a particular PCI card. I would say though that both from personal experience and from reading other people's comments, a card that uses an Intel wireless chip is likely to work well with Linux, and a card that uses a Broadcom chip is likely to cause trouble.

OK, Thanks to both of you. I was hoping for a brand and model, but after doing some more checking around on the internet I found out that they may use different chips in the same model and brand, so this info will be much better help. Thanks again. Now if I could remember how to mark this SOLVED

Strange. I have an Asus WL 138G V2 PCI card, which uses a Broadcom 4318 chip, and it works just fine with the b43 driver (32-bit system, desktop kernel). Well enough that I'm buying another, this time re-branded by Dell, to replace a USB dongle with a Realtek chip that refuses to work with Mageia 2 no matter what I do.

Go figure.

It does depend on the exact model number. Unfortunately that info can be hard to find for a given device, and as noted might also be incorrect, if another chip set has been substituted.

I have a few broadcom wireless devices working fine. But over the years the majority of the problem hardware I have battled has been broadcom. Like you say; go figure. :\

Thanks for the help, guess I'll just have her order a linksys pci card and take it from there.
