wifi doesn't work after install

Postby Mr5o1 » Jun 5th, '11, 11:50

Hi All,

Just thought I'd give Mageia a go and it looked great on the liveCD. Wifi worked when running from the liveCD, but after HDD install I get an error which says:
"Unable to find network interface for selected deviec (using iwlagn driver)"

In the control center there's an option to use ndiswrapper, which I've used on other distros. But the correct driver is obviously on the livecd somewhere.

What's the easiest route? Finding a windows driver and using ndiswrapper? Or getting the driver off the cd somehow?

Thanks in advance.

Oh.. laptop is a VAIO VGN-CR35G, pretty sure the wifi card is Atheros 4965 if memory serves.

Hi,
If you have a running wired connection, just add the nonfree and tainted repositories and try again.
If you haven't, try to know which packages are missing and download them with another PC.

Hi.

You can see your wifi chipset in the output of lspci. You should see something like this:

04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)

¿Can you post it? There are several atheros drivers so it's important.

You can also try loading the (very common) ath5k driver before reconfiguring the card:

modprobe ath5k

You may get lucky.

My problem's solved.
I found the solution here: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=923
Just search and install "dkms-broadcom-wl" from the source.
But it's the solution to the broadcom chip, which may not be helpful to you. Sorry~
