Mageia 2 0n Inspiron N5010. bluetooth shows enabled in BIOS and WL broadcom shows as eth1 and is working fine but Neither MCC, Blutooth in "configure you computer" or lspci show bluetooth adapter but apparently this laptop does have it:

it seems to be an usb device, so cannot be listed by lspci.

these commands should give some more details about it:

Code: Select all
hcitool dev
hciconfig -a
hcitool scan
dmesg | grep Bluetooth

here there is also a discussion related to that device:

opened laptop and discovered someone in there before me had left out hold down screw for BT adapter, thinking maybe it provided a ground but no luck so back to software.
I have heard that this device is toggled by Win 7 software ( then it can be used in linux) but of course there is no Windoze available around here.

hci* show no devices listed

dmesg | grep Blutooth output is :

[user@inspiron ~]$ dmesg | grep Bluetooth
[ 52.740848] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.16
[ 52.740879] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized
[ 52.740882] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized
[ 52.740884] Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized
[ 52.740889] Bluetooth: SCO socket layer initialized
[ 52.749625] Bluetooth: BNEP (Ethernet Emulation) ver 1.3
[ 52.749628] Bluetooth: BNEP filters: protocol multicast

Does this sound like a safe thing to try? -> http://code.google.com/p/broadcom-bluetooth/wiki/USB although there is no btusb directory, only /sys/bus/usb/drivers/ -> hub, usb, usbfs, usbhid, ucvvideo

[UPDATE] installed <bluez-hid2hci> package and now have blootooth icon and bluetooth adapters seen in system settings. Will check paired devices and mark solved when checked.

Thanks

Very strange. Am able to pair devices now but browsing files via Dolphin only shows one folder and a few .jpg images. The rest of images on cellphone must be pushed only 10 at a time over to the laptop. Had this setup in LinuxMint Xfce on another machine and all pics available for browsing via Thunar.

Any ideas what's up?
