[SOLVED] Unable to connect wireless network with Intel 3945

Dear forum members,

I am having this recent issue where I am not able to connect to any wireless network from my Mageia installation, even though I can see all the wireless networks. This started happening 4-5 days back and am not sure if some update has something to do with it. The wifi network itself may not be an issue as I am able to connect to the network from my Vista installation.

Mine is a Dell XPS M1530 with Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Dual Band 802.11a/g 54 1 Mbps Wireless Mini Card. Please suggest how to go about troubleshooting this issue.

Thank you.

can you try to use the driver 15.32.2.9 here suggested?

https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=2246&p=25577&hilit=3945#p25577

details about what is happening on your machine are in /var/log/syslog

That is no driver, but firmware. And normally you get all three firmware packages installed:
Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia2 ~]$ ufn iwlwifi
Nonfree Release:iwlwifi-3945-ucode-15.32.2.9-3.mga2.nonfree.noarch
Nonfree Release:iwlwifi-4965-ucode-228.61.2.24-5.mga2.nonfree.noarch
Nonfree Release:iwlwifi-agn-ucode-20120421-3.mga2.nonfree.noarch

You could check if that firmware is installed on your box but should be, otherwise you would not have been able to connect at all before.

Thank you doktor5000 and tom_.

As suddenly as the problem appeared, it disappeared as well today! Not sure what might be the issue here but perhaps the wifi set-up at home might be playing foul as my Vista partition too had problems in connecting today.

Anyway, I checked my firmware and I have the "iwlwifi-3945-ucode - Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG microcode" installed. Not the other two.

Things seem to be working fine now and so I'll take the liberty to mark this thread as [SOLVED]. :)

Thank you once again!
