remote access to my home PC

First again, thanks to all developers & the community for this so amazingly reliable linux distro.
I'm pretty newbie in networks. My question is quite simple, but it's not directly related to Mageia.
I'm using mageia2 x86 as a test box (I'm starting learning computer science this course at high school. My teachers are all on strike, and many things would become easier for me if I could access my home PC from outside my home LAN). I've got VMware-workstation-9 running on top of mageia2 x86, and I'd like to access a virtual fileserver (turnkey fileserver virtual appliance) from home, from school, from the library etc.. (mageia is my host PC, on top of it, it's running a fileserver as a virtual appliance)

I know I need a dynamic DNS provider to access my PC from outside my home LAN, but my router only allows 2 different dynamic DNS providers (dynDNS and TZO) and both are non free . I already have personal free accounts with other providers (NO-IP, freeDNS etc..) but I can't use them with my router, at least not now.

I'd like to know which different options do I have to avoid this situation and access remotely my computer from any place , not only from my home LAN (I'm obviously looking for free alternatives because this is not a production environment at all, I just need it for learning & because it seems to simplify things a lot to people in my situation) If there are options not related to dynamic DNS available for home users, or if there is any way to change the limitations of my router or something like that...

I think it's a Comtrend CT-5361 , the one that is giving ths spanish company Telefonica (in spain) *

EDIT: zyxel p660hw-b1a is a quite weird router, a comtrend device inside a Zyxel box! It doesn't even appear at Zyxel's catalog, here's all the info about my strange hybrid:

well, it seems I was wrong, telefonica use to put their routers into white boxes..

mine is:

Zyxel p660 HW - B1A

* in a stick behind my router I can read "Zyxel p660 HW-B1A" ; but at telefonica's site the only similar Zyxel is this one (Zyxel P660 HWD1) and in the picture I same the same router (at least the same box) I've got at home.

with the telefonica/movistar custom firmware mentioned above.

I've just checked an old router from the same company I had at home, and it uses the same dynamic DNS settings (only dynDNS and TZO allowed). The other router is:

Maybe best option would be to replace the router by another one, maybe buy a used one cheaply and put something like dd-wrt or openwrt on it.

That's right, but that's something that I'm trying to avoid...things are really bad here in Spain (I've been unemployed for nearly 2 years now, that's why I'm "back at school" again..buying a router, even a 2nd hand cheap one, was not in my plans, I'm going to try to explore other options first, and if I don't find some kind of partial solution, I'll probably end up buying a router, but that will be my last resort)

As there is a linux client for at least no-ip.com you could install and run that, and if your router allows for that,
some hacky expect script could set the current IP into the routers web frontend.
Or something else, maybe like in http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/497
Maybe you want to have at the scripts included with jdownloader, it has reconnect scripts
for many router types, which you could easily adapt.

thanks, doktor5000 , that could be a way..and what you say it's true, I've been using jdownloader (in linux & windows) probably since the app was launched, and it has some kind of script to reconnect your router everytime your IP changes. I've actually never used that, (I prefer torrents & only use direct downloads from time to time, and I've always thought that script was for people which uses jdownloader the whole day everyday) but that soution, or a similar one, is what I'm looking for (at least for now)

I've used NO-IP before, so your suggesting me some kind of NO-IP linux client + jdownloader router script (or similar) as a partial solution, don't you?

I've been looking at the NO-IP DUC, their linux client, I'm not sure if this could be another option in my case, it seems this app does by software the same function as a dynamic DNS provider can anybody confirm this?

If I install & configure No-IP DUC in the computer I want to access from outside my LAN (my mageia2 host in my case) , do I still need to configure properly my router?

thanks for the advice.. i'm more interested now in why are they interested in it.. because if I can find that, for example, this router can easily run with a custom (or official Xavi) firmware and connect to more dynamic DNS providers, that would be and ideal solution to my problem

Now thanks to you, I've got open a new line of investigation, let's see what I can find about this Amper Xavi 7968r..

PD: I've also found that in my fake zyxel/comtrend router I can access though telnet->sh to a busybox linux enviroment, I think that can make the scripting easier
