[SOLVED] Broadcom 4312 Chipset

Martin, thanks for sticking with me

I notice that when I go to the network on MCC I notice the signal strength is very low, which is unusual, considering the wireless device is about 10 feet away & on Ubun it's 4 out of 4 bars

My ISP's modem/router/wireless device comes with security that supposedly can't be turned off
I'll dig out an unsecured router/wireless later

just a few things
the signal strength icon is just grey even at full power

I can't see a way to confirm the password so,
I called up my ISP & reset the password, [no recovery option]

booted up M2
configured the wireless, connected
no problem

What led you to wonder about encryption?

on to the install
yeah :D

Because the wl driver names your device as eth1, rather than wlan0, the Linux wireless tools think it's a wired connection, hence the non-working signal strength icon. From the output of iwconfig, you had
Code: Select all
Link Quality=5/5  Signal level=-31 dBm  Noise level=-57 dBm

which is a good signal strength.

What made me think of encryption was that the driver was reporting full details of your access point, and showing good signal strength, but not associating.

Anyway, glad to hear you're up and running now.
