i have my computer set up to control the wireless network.

i plug my computer into the wireless router and it works. people are able to connect
to wireless.
my question is how do i set up a password, so the people that hook up have to use it.

This is another one of those posts that assumes we are fully aware of what your trying to achieve.

I could make several guesses of the possibilities, but why should i.

Please post a full explanation of what you are trying to do, besides the obvious, which is how to i enable wpa password security in my router, which has nothing to do with mageia, and all to do with what router you have.

If thats the case try letting us know what router it is in case someone here has the same one and can help.

If it is a TP-LINK router with default settings, open your web browser that is in your computer that is connected by wire (or wireless if you are using it open and connected) to the router and then you type: 192.168.1.1 and then user is admin and password is admin.

If it is a USR router type: 192.168.2.1 and user is admin and password is admin. (These are DEFAULT settings and may be set to new names and addresses during set up.)

I think many consumer grade routers use 192.168.1.1 as their address? Yes?

If yours accepts one of these log ins you then set the WPA security settings, the log in passwords and change the default admin name and admin password to something else so you have it secured from others logging into it and controlling it. Don't use WEP security if you can avoid it since it is not as secure as WPA.

Yep, also 192.168.2.1 is quite common. Also default usernames/passwords that are mostly used are admin, root and 0000.
