[SOLVED] Broadcom Wireless 4311

I have BCM4311 chip in my laptop , which was beautifully detected in the Live CD. This is currently not supported by Debian/Ubuntu and its forks. So I was happy and went about installing mageia on top of my Ubuntu -unity (which sucks ) . i wanted to go back to a traditional KDE. I have Mandriva in 1 desktop , so I wanted to go with Mandriva for the other.

On insallation , somehow the broadcom driver got screwed up. The drak wizard was giving 3 options - Ethernet (eth0) , Broadcom ,Wlan0 ...I am not able to detect any network in both broadcom and wlan0. I get the error that I should install broadcom-wl.

I have the source tar balls of bcm4311 and b43-fwcutter but "make install" is not working. I dont know how to use ndiswrapper as the bcm.inf file is not found in the windows 7 drive.

Pl advise.

If you used the same LiveCD to install with, then I don't understand what happened.

If you used the DVD to install Mageia, then it is caused by that DVD containing nothing but free software. After enabling the nonfree repository in MCC, you can install:
broadcom-wl-5.100.82.112-4.mga2.nonfree
That should solve the problem

The problem got resolved. Actually the b43 driver had not been installed . At the time of installation , in one of the screens there are 2 options

Remove (1) Unsupported Hardware (2) Unsupported Loacale . By default both the options are marked (ticked) . I reinstalled again from the live Cd , the 2 nd time by removing the tick mark from "unsupported Hardware " option. So this time all the drivers got installed and I am able to access wifi from "wlan0" .

But why are there 2 menu options for WIFi in drak control center network config -one for Broadcom 80211.g/n and another for wlan0 . Broadcom is also coming under wlan0 right?

Anyhow now it is flawless and I am able to use net.

Mind to show a small screenshot?

And thanks for reporting back your results, i've added this to the Errata: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Err ... .2Flocales
