b43 drakx-net in today's updates

Postby Eggdog » Dec 24th, '11, 17:04

Hi, Mageia greeted me this morning with a list of available updates. On that list was drakx-net, and the first item in the changelog was as follows:
* Mon 05 Dec 2011 07:00:00 AM EST zezinho <zezinho> 0.97.2-1.mga1

+ Revision: 176878
- fix squid configuration when sharing internet connection (#1353)
- fixed bad tarball
- 0.97.1 : Use b43-openfwwf for b43 module instead of asking for a windows driver (#923)

My laptop has one of those Broadcom b43 wireless adapters. I don't understand that much about wireless, but from the changelog, it looks like that last line in particular ("use b43-openfwwf for b43 module instead of asking for a windows driver") indicates a significant change.

I got the wireless to work fine after I installed Mageia. Should I consider skipping/blacklisting this update? Or am I overestimating the potential trouble?

If somebody could explain what exactly is being fixed here, maybe I can understand :) .

Thanks.

Actually this should be for the initial installation, for existing setups there should be no change.
I'd say just install the update and find out :)
