[SOLVED] Video "cable error."

[SOLVED] Video "cable error."

Postby laidlaws » Apr 27th, '25, 11:19

RUNNING Mageia 9 on a home-built computer connected to the Australian National broadband network via a supplied router/modem which seems O.K The screen is OK with saved content but the router set up screen says that Internet is available but a cable is broken. My wife's HP laptop gives the same message. The only cable that they both use is a 2 metre standard networking cable. Swapping the cable does nothing. There was an "error -32" message but it has gone away.
Reinstalling changes nothing. I can see nothing further in the video chain but I am not a technician. Especially (should be lspci) shows no errors. On another forum dealing with the -32 error message two threads thought that it meant a new HD but nothing in my problem suggests it. My guess is that it was the first thing they thought of.My Android phone works normally.

It is unclear where you see this message or which app produces it. If i read it right, the error message shows up when you enter the settings of your router. You need to check the manual for help…

Your reply came in while I was typing. The screen is like that when I log on yes i am able to view the router's start page but i haven't changed any settings. There is no evidence to follow. Bendigo already has a bad reputation for drop-outs. On more than one occasion I have received a carrier but no data. In addition to the Easter break Friday was another public holiday. I will leave it until the beer runs out and everyone goes back to work.

But if my phone can receive data the carrier is not empty

Silly question...

Did you reboot the router?

Several times. I must have changed a setting somewhere. I have the signal travelling from the router to my study along the power wiring with a good brand of interface at each end. All their LEDS light up when they should. Checking with the laptop on Windows 10 the laptop was right beside the router.
