After renaming folder: Files to copy are already there

This is similar to https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=14574 .

FTP issue:

I have a folder "myfolder" with some files inside of it. Then I rename it into "myfolder-old". Then I copy the "myfolder" upstream again.
But now I get the warning messages: "This folder already contains a file named X.Existing file's site is the same. Would you like to replace the existing file hosted at xyz?"
:?:

But this cannot be, because the folder "myfolder" cannot be on the server immediately after I have renamed it. And I see that the folder "myfolder" has been renamed on the server. So how does it claim to overwrite something inside of it?

This error is present since I guess 2004 in all former Mandriva and Mageia versions, on almost all FTP programs and on different servers.
Now it happens with Mageia 9 and Cross-FTP.

What about all the pointers from the thread you linked? You don't even mention what FTP client you're currently using.

Why should I mention them? Konqueror, Thunar, Cross-FTP and I have tried out some others which did have more problems.
Now I am using only Cross-FTP, because it is the only FTP-client which offers to overwrite only files changed by different file size.
