I know it's not my email server because my android tablet picks up said mail I don't think it's Mageia because thunderbird on M8 worked in my last installation but as it's the mailbox tree installation seems to be at fault it could be either thunderbird or Mageia.

So how did you try to set up your account in Thunderbird?

Well, I used the wizard, filling in the answers to each of the questions, I've even tried to download all the other email clients that Xfce supports, claws says the mailbox tree is malformed, that's causing the error. M8 is a beta so I don't expect it to be perfect, but email is one of the fundamentals. It does work on android and did work for months on this M8.

Mind to tell what you actually put in there? Minus your username and password, obviously. Otherwise this is not really reproducible for anyone else.

Right, I use aql.com servers, so using SSL/TLS encryption, I have to name the server. Which because I own the domain it's mail.cornish-bio-fuels.co.uk. If I want IMAP or POP3 messaging it's either port 993 or 995 respectively.
Because I can get into this account via Aql's web portal(such a pain) there's only spam on it

I think some settings on the mailbox tree aren't being written correctly which I don't understand as I did a clean install Formatting the disk, but that's what the claws output says.

So this is your own mal server ? Are you sure about that, because this name does not resolve via DNS.
Do you have an entry in /etc/hosts for that or is that only resolved via your DNS server ?

I rent space on aql.com's servers I haven't actually got any servers so I could use mail.hosting1.aql.com instead of mail.cornish-bio-fuels.co.uk. they must do some aliasing magic. It's resolved by DNS.
I've tried to PM my thunderbird settings because although I wanted you to have them I didn't want to post them openly on the forum but I don't think that worked. You should have received a screenshot of the thunderbird window, but when I checked I didn't recognise the filename.

The SSL settings I got from my provider didn't actually work. I was cleaning my laptop keyboard and the cleaner got in. So I suppose that was my fault. I've powered up a old Dell refurbished Laptop and although I had to tell the old M7.1 my current email password it downloads my emails. M7.2 even has a driver for my newish HP printer Office jet Pro 9020
