BCM4309 Drivers for Dell Laptop

BCM4309 Drivers for Dell Laptop

Postby BrentRogers » May 5th, '20, 03:53

I have a Dell Laptop with what Mageia 7 identifies as Broadcom BCM4309 802.11abg Wireless Network Controller.

If I try to configure that interface I get the error
Unable to find network interface for selected device (using ssb driver)

I found some Windows drivers (with ndiswrapper) I downloaded for use with Mageia 5 [ I think that was the Disk I saved to].
But they don't seem to work for Magei 7.
I keep .
getting referred to http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/medi ... x.php/List

But I can't find anything there -- or at least that appears to be of use.

Questions:
My downloads also appear to be source.
Do I need to [re]Make?

Is there some other place I can find the appropriate drivers?

Can you please post the output of
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v
so we can see the PCI vendor and product ID?
Because the name of the chipset alone does not really help, there are often product where the actually used chipset changes between revisions, and sometimes that requires totally different drivers.

Apart from that, please only use ndiswrapper if there are no native drivers for your wireless device.
And if you had windows drivers that worked, those will still work, they're not really dependant on the Mageia version.

"appear to be source" - what do you mean by that, and what download are you referring to in particular? Please try to keep in mind, we don't really know what you're looking at unless you tell us.

lspcidrake -v output is attached.

I never got the native drivers working.
I had to use the ndiswrapper(s).
For the windows wrappers, I found an old CD i burned with some drivers on there.
Don't really know which one I used.

Now I do have another Mageia 5 machine. I think it uses the same drivers.
Any way to find out which one(s) it uses and transfer them over?

You only posted the information for one box - how are we supposed to know if that is the same device as your other Mageia 5 machine ?

This one works either with the proprietary wl driver or the free b43 driver, from what I can tell: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/b43
