[SOLVED] Atheros Ar5001 rev 01 wireless adapter wont connect

I have a toshiba satelite 64 bit with an atheros wifi card
lspic shows
2:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

When I go to MCC and configure the wireless connection it finds everything but wont connect. I get the error that says that there was an error to check config. MCC finds the ar5001 and offers ndiswrapper

I have a netgear router wndr3300 and have tried it set to no security and to wep2
I rechecked the security password

I get no connection either way

Can someone suggest what I need to look at to find the problem?

solved

router failure was the problem, laptop will connect to routers in other locations
