TigerVNC - Invalid screen size error trying to connect

TigerVNC - Invalid screen size error trying to connect

Postby HenryBuddy » Feb 26th, '20, 02:50

I used TigerVNC on Mageia 6 for a long time without problems. After upgrading to Mageia 7, the TigerVNC viewer won't connect to a TigerVNC server. I always get the error message: Invalid screen size. This happens every time, and on several computers, both 32-bit and 64-bit. I can connect using an older java viewer. Does anyone have an idea about what is causing this error when trying to connect using the TigerVNC viewer?

You're missing some context information. What's the tigervnc server version and OS, and also what resolution is it running under?
Also, what about disabling the option "Resize remote session to local window" in the tigervnc client ?
See e.g. https://github.com/TigerVNC/tigervnc/issues/327 and https://github.com/TigerVNC/tigervnc/issues/274 for some more information on that.

Note that there is a known bug in version 1.10.1 that will result in this error message, depending on how you connect to the server:
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26118.
The previous version is still in the Core Release repository, but i don't know if any significant security issues are re-introduced by roiling back to that one.

I'm using the current Mageia 7 versions:
tigervnc-server - Version: 1.10.1-1.mga7
tigervnc-server-module - Version: 1.10.1-1.mga7
tigervnc - Viewer - Version: 1.10.1-1.mga7
Screen size is 1024x768 , 24 bit color

Here are the messages from server startup:
Wed Feb 26 12:51:55 2020
Geometry: Desktop geometry is set to 1024x768+0+0
XDesktop: Using evdev codemap
XDesktop:
XDesktop: XTest extension present - version 2.2
Main: Listening on port 5900

Everything worked OK using Tigervnc on Mageia 6, but won't connect after migrating to Mageia 7. Might be a Tigervnc problem and not a Mageia problem.

Replying to arnesp: Thank you for the information about this viewer connection bug. It describes the problem I'm encountering. My workaround is to use the Tiger VNC java-based viewer. It will (non-securely) connect to the latest Tigervnc server.
