TP-link TL-WN725N not working with Mageia 7.1 (64bit)

Hi all,

I have USB Wireless adaptor (wlp0s29u1u5:Realtek 801.11n nic) which worked ok with Mageia 6 but having done a fresh install of Mageia 7.1, when i try to start up the wireless interface via MCC, i get the following error:

Problems occurred during the network connectivity test
this can be caused by invalid network configuration, or problems with your modem or router.
You might want to relaunch the configuration to verify the connection settings

I know the wireless adapter works ok on the same H/W via Win10 so can rule out the PC and Wireless router.

Any ideas how i best go about fixing this?

It would help if you would post the full vendor/product ID as shown in the output of e.g. lspcidrake -v or lspci -nnk.

According to e.g. https://wiki.debian.org/rtl819x#r8188eu this should work with the r8188eu driver.
And you should have the package rtlwifi-firmware installed already (which comes from the nonfree repositories). Is that the case ?

Hi there, yes that is the case.
If it helps, I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver but still have the same issue.

Hmmm, maybe you want to have a look at viewtopic.php?f=25&t=9071 or maybe viewtopic.php?f=25&t=11121
Although someone also posted that he didn't get the driver to work with TP-Link TL-WN725N, but that was quite a while ago - viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8275
The problem seems to be that there are at least 2 different TPlink adapters with ID 0bda:8179 and they have different chipsets ... see https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fix ... -193176635 which explains this.

What you could try, to get some more information - unplug your adapter, open a terminal and as root run

and leave that running. Then plugin the adapter, and wait a few seconds again. Then post the whole output here.

You can also try to manually load the driver, so you can see if there are any additional messages that might provide a hint, maybe a missing firmware or something like that.

You can also try the newer rtl8xxxu driver which might also work.

Overall I'd recommend simply getting another adapter with a different chipset ...

Devices based on Atheros chips usually work very well with Linux.

Hi...I am experiencing another huge issue. My wireless association would not give me over 2% (max 15%) of sign. More often than not, it doesn't work.

I have experienced a few strings on this. It appears to be this minuscule TP-LINK USB card has issues with speed/association. I don't get any speed even subsequent to sitting directly before my Wi-fi switch. The bars are only not there, however the card has green flickering lights (it is associated, as it at some point works, yet exceptionally moderate).

I am truly trusting that you could assist me with investigating this?
