[SOLVED] Broadcom Limited BCM4352 802.11ac

Postby nemmie » Nov 13th, '17, 17:14

I have a DELL PRECISION M6800 running Mageia 6 64bit. I am having trouble with my wireless adapter (Broadcom Limited BCM4352 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter) it had stopped connecting to networks. It shows the networks then I try to connect it just spins its wheels before saying connection failed. Sometimes I can get lucky by rebooting the laptop and I have a 50/50 chance it will connect, but after some time it starts to slow down before just dying. I have never been able to get the Bluetooth part of this card to work. Please help me with this, I have been fighting with this for 6 months now. I am a student at college and my only access is on the college pc till I can get my laptop up and running, so I can't use any IRC because they are blocked by the college.
Here is a list of my pci

The lspci output alone is not that helpful as the numerical vendor and product IDs are missing. Also some more information is required ...

Which desktop environment are you using? Do you use net_applet or NetworkManager?
Does it matter whether the networks you connect to are unencrypted, WEP/WPA/WPA2 ?
And please provide the output of the following commands:

Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v | grep -iE "wlan|wifi|wireless|net"
ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep -iE "net|wpa"

and, as root:
Code: Select all
ifconfig -a
rfkill list all
systemctl status network.service -a
journalctl -ab | grep -iE "fw|firmware|iwl|wifi|wire|80211"
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Thank you for your response, I am using KDE I am not sure, it's in Network Center. I do apologize, I am still learning Linux.
As for the network, it's an unsecured multiaccess point at the college.

here are the outputs

Please next time use code tags as explained in ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/mandriva/m ... e_tags.ogv

I'd suggest switching to networkmanager and test again that way. I've described how to switch from Mageia's default net_applet to networkmanager here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5782

Thank you for all your help. I am sorry about the code tags I will make sure to use them. All is well with my wireless now I got to find out why my Bluetooth is not working.

You mention that all is well, but you may want to add what you changed? Did the switch to networkmanager help?

Well, I installed NetworkManager and I am now able to connect to the wireless. But now Mageia Control Center refuses to open. I have to reboot the computer and hurry up and open it to use it. But after the first time, I close it. MCC will not open back up till I reboot. sometimes I have to reboot many times before it will work. I am at a loss.

Ok. so far I have done
Code: Select all
urpmi networkmanager networkmanager-applet plasma-applet-nm

then did
Code: Select all
systemctl enable NetworkManager.service

then
Code: Select all
systemctl start NetworkManager.service

then
Code: Select all
#systemctl status networkmanager
NetworkManager.service - Network Manager

Then restarted desktop session and I am able to log into any wireless device now. So this much of my trouble seems to be fixed.
But now drakconf seem to be crashing in gui but working in commandline mode. what have I done wrong?

That might be totally unrelated, please open a separate thread for that issue.

Installing NetworkManager fix my connection issue, but cause another one with Mangeia Controle Center. The trouble was NetworkManager was changing the name of my host to something provided by the network router and was causing my system trouble.
