yes that is it.
My laptop does not boot with kernel 4.4.1. It boots slowly to the login screen and after putting the username and password in it takes several minutes to get to the point where 2 bubbles are above the cauldron then the screen goes black with a fully functioning pointer and nothing else.

I will do that. I am using the laptop with kernel: 3.19.8-desktop-3.mga5 and the wifi is working fine.
