The on-board Wired network interface isn't working

Postby dwhite » Mar 6th, '16, 15:39

It's a Realtech Semiconducter Co,. LTD 8111/8168/8400 PCi Gigerbit Ethernet controller it stopped working a while ago, but I don't know exactly when. I bought usb wifi controller and the system started to use that, but my copy of Filezilla has started to time out. So either my broadband is slower or I'm slower over wifi. If I can get the hard CAT5e controller to work I'll be happy the as the WiFi cone is mainly grey I'm not impressed with this Broadband supplier.
Now I've assembled a GA 320M-H AMD Chip and an ASUS Geforce GT 710

Please provide the output of the following commands:

Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v

and, as root:
Code: Select all
ifconfig -a
systemctl status network.service -a
journalctl -ab | grep -iE "rtl|realtek"

You ran the last commands as regular user, not as root.

And for the last one, as your onboard NIC seems to use the r8169 driver, better use instead
Code: Select all
journalctl -ab | grep -iE "rtl|realtek|r8169"

You have a wired interface with IP adress 80.234.172.71 but the network seems unreachable, maybe due to a missing route - what's that?

And could it be that you forgot the output of

You're being generous now forgetting is the least of my problems, if I don't get Stem Cell therapy soon I'll be a drooling genius
How do I change the driver, I remember once many years ago the system asked, though that might have been Mandrake.

That 80.234.172.71 address is a public address, while your wifi shows a 192.168 address which is private. This suggests your wifi is connecting either through an access point or a router. Most commonly it would be a router, so why does your wired connection show a public address? What is your network topology, and is that address static?

What is the output of the command "/sbin/route" ? Alternatively (and equivalently) if you wish to be modern, what is the output of "/sbin/ip route" ?

And how shall anyone here help you with that if you don't provide basic details?
Apart from that, as a general hint and golden rule: Please only one problem per thread ;)

Well, the probelm why you opened this thread seems fixed according to your reply, please mark it as solved.
If that problem is fixed, how can this relate to the filezilla problem?
