Postby JJF » Oct 25th, '15, 22:12

I am trying to open (double click) the "Remote Access on Linux" displayed in the network window and get the following error:
Unable to mount location
SSH program unexpectedly exited

The box is 64b mageia 5 cinnamon desktop with 2 displays

Please show the output as root of
Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep ssh
systemctl status sshd.service -a

And please right-click on "Remote Access on Linux" icon and select properties and please paste a screenshot here.

Well, I don't have such an icon for comparison. Do you have a second box in your network which is named "linux"?

There are 3 computers on the LAN:
1. Linux , mageia 5 as described previously
2. Windows 7 laptop
3. Windows XP (Older IBM) laptop

I am able to connect and brows the Linux box from both windows pc
On the othe hand, I can't connect neither see othe PC's on the LAN nor the linux box itself.

I could connect and see the (self) linux files on the linux network (icon) few day ago, but suddenly it stopped and I get the error message.
Does this info help in any way?
Tks

That sounds confusing. You are sitting in front of the linux box, and on that linux box you want to access itself remotely?
If you want to enable remote access TO the linux box, you might want to look at e.g. http://ask.xmodulo.com/enable-configure ... sktop.html

Let's try another way - What do you actually want to achieve, in a more abstract manner?
Do you want to access the windows boxes file shares somehow from the linux box? (as the other way is working already from your description)
Or do you want remote access as in RDP/ssh/vnc or teamviewer or similar?

I actually want to see and browse all LAN computers. Similar to windows "network neighborhood".
[The error showed up when I tried (as was the situation before) to click the linux box in the network window after which it was mounted and I could see the files ]
Anyway, my goal is to both connect to other PC's on the LAN together with the ability to access the linux box from the outside world.

More information for Doktor5000
I attach a typical cinnamon deskot showing the "network" icon used to access Lan PC's and which is responsible to generate the error - also attached.

Surprisingly, Dolphin network is OK as see by the attached image.

Any clue?

Ok, and what happens now when you click on the icon?

When I click the icon, it displays the local content - under cinnamon desktop - as used to be before my "playing" with ssh setup.
I failed to mention, that when I logged in to KDE, the desktop network icon did display the network including the neighboring pc's both linux and windows.
Look at my post "System restore".
I am not a linux competent, and unable to explain in details why my trials finally brought up the system back to normal
Thanks to all who tried to help
