How to share internet connexion

How to share internet connexion

Postby pmithrandir » Oct 9th, '11, 15:10

Hi,

I would like to share my wifi internet connection to my lan network.

Here is the configuration :
- A wifi router in my neighbour livingroom.
- my laptop with wifi connection AND network (LAN RJ45) connection.
- my personnal router with a WAN plug.(should be a redondant internet connection plug)
- my VOIP phone connectd on my router.

My idea is to get the wifi connection from the neighbour wifi, share it on my mageia laptop to my network.
Using the WAN plug to get internet connection on my personnal router
Getting internet on my router would enable my voip telephone.

So, I tried first to share my wifi connection on my lan network with the MCC network tab? I select the wifi connection as the one with internet.
But right after, I get a message that say I have no lan connection available to share the connection on

Do you have any idea ?

I disabled all my firewall on my computer, but I don't know if I did it on wifi ot lan, there is no such precision in MCC.
Do you think I have a reasonnable idea and it should works like it ?

I'm gonna go tomorrow outside my home for a week and I would like my girlfriend to have the phone line set up before that.

Regards,
Pierre

Hello,
Did you think that you have to set two different networks. If you have 192.168.0.1 for your router for example, your laptop will have 192.168.0.2 (eg). Then for your lan, you must have numbers like 192.168.1.x
Has your laptop two network cards or only only one with wifi and RJ 45 ?
If you use DHCP, did you check there is enough available IP ?

Hi,

I have one wifi network card, and one ETH0 network card.
IP is 192.168.1.2 on wifi, and something else on wan(10.0.0.1 or something else, I tried many stuff)

There is no DHCP on eth network, my laptop would need to provide IP I think.

10.0.0.1 is your public address, for the router (WAN). You need for the laptop two private addresses beginning by 192.168. one for each private network.
If the laptop has 192.168.1.2 on wifi, on the eth0 card, try something like 192.168.2.x, x different for each PC of your lan (see how your IP addresses look like on the lan).

I already tried to put 192.168.2.something on my LAN connection... but MCC doesn't recognise it at all.

My wifi connection is 192.168.1.2, attribued by DHCP by wifi router.
