Unable to established DSL Connection

Unable to established DSL Connection

Postby dilseaniket » Jun 24th, '15, 20:20

Hello,

I am a new user to Mageia. Just installed Mageia 5 on my machine.
On the same machine I am currently connected to Internet on Windows.

However, not able to configure DSL on Mageia in spite of giving correct username password for DSL.
Any suggestion?

Thank you,
Aniket

What do you mean exactly by "not able to configure"? There is no error message when you finish to configure the connection? What about the test at the end?
What desktop environment do you use, and what tool do you use to configure the DSL connection? drakconnect? http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/drakconnect.html

Okay.. Let me describe the problem in detail:
While installing the system, I tried to connect to DSL Internet Using Drakonnect. After entering configuration details for PPPoE (which I used in Linux Mint earlier), it tried to start the connection... However, I get error message that there is error in connection.
When I tried configuring again after install, I get error - network is down on ppp0.. Currently I can connect on Mint/windows properly..
What can be the reason? (I have followed all the steps peroperly in drakonnect configuration.

in this day and age you are still using a usb modem.

would be better to grab a dsl router, wireless or not does not matter

connect your mageia/mint system to it with wireless or a cat 5 cable.

let the router deal with the dsl connection, username/password, settings, and firewall/nating.

you can get the latest zytel adsl routers for about £30 of amazon.

this also makes connecting to the internet far less complex for all users in your household.
