[DONE] "Could not find smb.conf!" message in Dolphin

Postby FiableDotBiz » Jun 15th, '15, 05:11

Hello.

We use Mageia 4 KDE on all our computers and have set local network, using extensively NFS and autofs. Having trouble with that (which causes very long delays at logging in, as well as in Dolphin, Plasma waiting for Dolphin etc. when only one expected computer of the network is turned off), I had tried to install Samba but couldn't find a good guide or tutorial to install Samba between Linux computers, so couldn't get it work and I eventually removed Samba. When I launch Dolphin by command line, I get:
Code: Select all
Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceAdded(QDBusObjectPath)
Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceRemoved(QDBusObjectPath)
QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap
QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap
QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap
dolphin(3898) KSambaSharePrivate::findSmbConf: KSambaShare: Could not find smb.conf!

In Dolphin → Places → Network, I still have a "Samba shares" folder I can't get rid of. What to do?

As you searched for a guide or tutorial on how to set it up, what are you missing from our documentation for MCC?
http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/ ... share.html
http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/5/en/content/ ... --smb.html

That message is only information, and not an error. If you don't have an smb.conf, the program just tells you as it cannot use it.

In dolphin, that link exists by default, why do you want to remove it? What do you want to achieve with that?

As you do not provide any detailed information about the NFS/automount issues I cannot help you further with that.

Ah: thank you. So I suggest the exclamation mark be removed, because it means the computer is surprised, i.e. that it expected smb.conf to be there. So I thought this was a cause of delay for Dolphin. For the NFS problem, I think it would be better to open another thread. But hopefully Mageia 5 will be released soon, so it may be wiser to wait a bit.

So what? It's not even marked as an error.
But feel free to propose that upstream at https://bugs.kde.org

Please mark the thread accordingly by editing the topic of the first post and prefix it by [DONE], thanks
