[SOLVED] Wifi connection lost after update February 19, 2015

Postby sulestino » Feb 23rd, '15, 19:43

Hello,
After automatic update on February 19, 2015 my wifi network adapter Linksys AE1200 can not connect to the network as normally did before:
wlan1 does not show at all (blue light on the adapter does not shine at all) and logs after update are following (note: pressing manual radio button does not change anything):
Code: Select all
[  191.321048] b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 478.104 (2008-07-01 00:50:23)

and it is connected wia wifi network adapter.

Would you have any idea what to change, so that wifi works again? Thanks for any idea in advance.

Please next time use code tags as explained in ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/mandriva/m ... e_tags.ogv

Thanks ahead! :)

The chip seems to be getting disabled during boot by something. Can you enable it physically on your laptop (FN+Fx key combination, or hardware switch).

Question is, do you know what driver was used before the update, presumable with an older kernel? Was it also b43?

Can you please select one of the older kernels in bootloader, where wifi was still working and check the log output there?
Please also post the output of
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v | grep -i -e net -e wireless -e wifi
ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep -ie net -e wpa

I ve already uninstalled kernel 3.14.32 earlier, soon after update when trying to solve this issue myself, apparently bad idea and I forgot to mention it, sorry about that.
I guess there was always b43 used. The connection was not via wlan0 but wlan1, that now does not show up at all in network center.
Neither pressing hardware switch nor FN+Fx key change anything.

current kernel is 3.14.28
and info is as following:
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v | grep -i -e net -e wireless -e wifi
ssb             : Broadcom Corporation|BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [NETWORK_OTHER] (vendor:14e4 device:4311 subv:103c subd:1364) (rev: 01)
b44             : Broadcom Corporation|BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX [NETWORK_ETHERNET] (vendor:14e4 device:170c subv:103c subd:30a2) (rev: 02)

Code: Select all
ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep -ie net -e wpa
root        12     2  0 17:16 ?        00:00:00 [netns]
ludek     2637  2520  0 17:17 ?        00:00:30 /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/net_applet
ludek     6490  2637  0 18:15 ?        00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/draknetcenter
root      6491  6490  0 18:15 ?        00:00:03 /usr/bin/perl /usr/libexec/draknetcenterth

with older kernel 3.14.27-desktop-1.mga4:
Code: Select all
[root@localhost ludek]# lspcidrake -v | grep -i -e net -e wireless -e wifi
ssb             : Broadcom Corporation|BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [NETWORK_OTHER] (vendor:14e4 device:4311 subv:103c subd:1364) (rev: 01)
b44             : Broadcom Corporation|BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX [NETWORK_ETHERNET] (vendor:14e4 device:170c subv:103c subd:30a2) (rev: 02)
[root@localhost ludek]# ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep -ie net -e wpa
root        12     2  0 22:02 ?        00:00:00 [netns]
ludek     2840  2722  0 22:03 ?        00:00:03 /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/net_app

it goes now as this:
Code: Select all

[  631.617031] b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 478.104 (2008-07-01 00:50:23)

[  631.690015] b43-phy0 debug: DMA-32 tx_ring_mcast: Used slots 0/256, Failed frames 0/0 = 0.0%, Average tries 0.00

and after that nothing more is happening.
It was before the same way until this moment, but after that initialized network script as one can see here:
Code: Select all

Seems you got 2 wireless adapters, and one uses the ndiswrapper driver. Maybe you did try to configure it using drakconnect?
Can you please post the complete output as root of
Code: Select all
ndiswrapper -l
lspcidrake -v
cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

For the b43 driver, you probably need to blacklist the ssb driver. See similar threads:
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=8734
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2576
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2329

And if you don't use ndiswrapper, remove that too.
Code: Select all
ndiswrapper -r
should suffice, IIRC.

[SOLVED] Wifi connection lost after update on February 19, 2

Postby sulestino » Feb 26th, '15, 20:19

Hi, it is solved now :) . It just did not come somehow into my mind to run drakconnect via konzole and to reestablish network, I could not believe that it can be that easy... It helped, wlan1 appeared and wifi is now ok. Thanks very much for your help and time.

logs, just maybe for someone:
Code: Select all
[root@localhost ludek]# ndiswrapper -l
bcmwlhigh5 : driver installed

Code: Select all
