Fixed Please insert medium "core release" message

Postby Rosco » Apr 22nd, '14, 13:36

Sorry if this is a totally basic question but I have just moved over to Mageia from Ubuntu and am trying to install some extra software packages. Trying to install Aisleriot for instance, I get the message: Please insert medium "Core release" part way through the install.I did add the various dependancies as explained in the Documentation. I also need to install Dropbox. an anyone help please?

usualy this is because you have not added the repos post install, and all you have in the software repos is
the DVD, if you installed from the full DVD, as opposed to live.

so open up mageia control panel.

select software -> and add repos.

select add and let it update the repos from the mirrors, then make sure the core release is selected.

I usually select everything except backports, testing or debug.

In addition to wintpe maybe you want to take a look here? https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I followed your instructions and downloaded a load of packages which weren't downloaded when I installed the OS (from the dvd on the cover of Linux Voice). However the problem still persisted until I inserted the dvd, the relevant packages were retrieved and Aisleriot was installed ok. The same thing happened with another instal I just tried.I know the answers are most likely in the Documentation which I am delving into but any comments will help.

Regards,
Ross

Simply remove the installation medium as a software source. In the below screenshot it's the first one in the list:
