Modem help

Modem help

Postby drew77 » Oct 1st, '13, 02:56

I would like some help in getting my USB modem setup for faxing and dialing out to another modem via a phone line.

It is a Trendnet TFM-561-U modem. Both Linux and Windows capable.

What help do you need exactly? Please have a look at http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/3/en/content/drakconnect.html

Setup is totally different than other distros.

Mageia recognized a modem.

I may have to install a driver if there is not diagnostic to find the right driver.

Modems are usually covered by one driver, which is installed by default, that is the usbserial driver, the same one as for most 3G modems.

What happens if you try to setup a new network connection as described in the documentation linked to above?
For a modem that would be http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/3/en/content/ ... ml#d4e1345

I have two modems. I can live without the internal "fake" modem. :-)

It shows this one which is the one I previously posted about.

I would like to get it working.

So did you try to configure it as described in the documentation?

Is there a SuperKonsole available ?

Much easier to run root commands.

What's a SuperKonsole? Just open a terminal and switch to root via su -
You can also setup sudo, even for passwordless access, if you want that.

SuperKonsole is a konsole window with admin privileges. (OpenSuse uses it.)

No time wasted with su - everytime you need to do some work.

Any recommendations on a forum that has experience with setting up and using an actual modem ?

If you give the same feedback as here probably doesn't matter where you ask. Until now you didn't even respond to the last question about the current state.

And if you refuse to give answers to the questions asked your answers will be few to none on any forum you find.

Are you kidding me? I've pointed you to the corresponding documentation, and asked questions, most of which you didn't answer,
also you didn't provide enough information for others to help you remotely. If you continue like this, thread will be locked.
