Frequent network disconnects by NetworkManager ?

Hi all,

since switching to NetworkManager for testing reasons (explained here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5782) there are frequent disconnects, without a real reason. Log looks like this:

Adapter is an Intel IWL 5100AGN:
Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia3 ~]$ lspcidrake -v | grep -i wifi
iwlwifi         : Intel Corporation|WiFi Link 5100 [NETWORK_OTHER] (vendor:8086 device:4232 subv:8086 subd:1201)

Sometimes when i get to work or to sleep, when i come back to my box there are up to 20 notifications of network disconnects from knetworkmanager.
This also happens when no applet (nm-applet or knetworkmanager) is running.
Signal strength is always over 85%, distance to the router is only ~3m. Router is a Fritz!Box 7360SL with latest firmware 05.50.
WLAN is configured as recommended (automatic, 802.11n+g+b) and encrpytion is WPA2-CCMP
Weird thing is, with the same configuration I've not encountered any disconnect with net_applet ... :?

I've already had a look for this, and seems its rather common, but the fixes/workarounds vary greatly, none helped so far:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/548992
which includes http://bugzilla.intellinuxwireless.org/ ... gi?id=2305 - intel bugzilla has been taken offline for security issues)

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=146052
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get- ... n-3-a.html
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=503983

What I've tried already:
  • disable 802.11n via "echo "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" >> /etc/modprobe.conf"
  • disable power management via sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off (disabled for module iwlwifi by default, but what the heck ...)
  • disabled IPv6 via kernel option ipv6.disable=1 and via draknetcenter (adds options ipv6 disable=1 to modprobe.conf) even though i'm not using IPv6, but just to be sure.
Does anyone else see something like this? Does anyone have an idea what the cause might be?

During the beta testing of Mageia 2, I observed frequent disconnects/reconnects whenever I did a fresh install and NetworkManager was enabled. At the time I blamed this on having both NetworkManager and net_applet competing to control the wireless interface and fixed the problem by disabling NetworkManager (I never could understand why both were enabled by default), but maybe this diagnosis was wrong, and it was just NetworkManager causing the problem.

Well, if it was a default GNOME install, then NetworkManager was active, but not in control - at least that's the case now.
