[SOLVED] VPN Connection crashing and LZO question

Postby DiBosco » Jun 3rd, '13, 14:58

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection, with Mageia 3, to my Raspberry Pi. I've had this working on two machines with Open SuSE, so I know the basic Pi set-up is correct. I have one problem and one question with the Mageia 3 set up.

1. When I click on connect to attempt to connect the VPN I have set up, the little icon in the system tray disappears. If I open up Network Centre from Control Centre it's also not there. If I go through Configure Network to secure network access in Control centre it tells me it's set up again; going back into Network Centre from within Control Centre and it is there. However, the [VPN] connection disappears again when I click on it to connect.

2. How to you configure to use LZO compression? On SuSE there was a little tick box and that was vital to enable me to connect.

All the other stuff such as specifying certificate and keys seems pretty straight forward and I think I have that correct. I have disabled the firewall and done that errata thing where you have to uninstall Shorewall v6 and then it gets reinstalled later when you configure the firewall.

Thanks!

OK, sussed it. For once, one of the usually fantastic Mageia tools is buggy, so you have to use a KDE tool which works beautifully.

So, do this:

1. Make sure you have network-manager installed
2. Add a Network Management plasma icon thingy to the task bar. You know the one where you click on the bottom right hand of the taks bar, unlock widgets and double click to add a plasma widget thingy.
3. Follow these instructions (as he suggested, I used the command line way of doing it and log out then back in):

https://wiki.mageia.org/en/QA_procedure:Knetworkmanager

4 Using the newly installed Network Manager plasma thingy add a new network interface, in this case an Open VPN. Add all the keys and things in the appropriate place. How to do this is not really the point of this post - there are lots of how-tos on that.

Hope that helps. :~)
