Wireless Card issue

Wireless Card issue

Postby mhoke63 » May 3rd, '13, 06:58

Trying to get my wireless card to work. (Asus PCE-N15) I am trying to use ndiswrapper. I keep getting this error:

Code: Select all
Unable to find the ndiswrapper interface!

When I run ndiswrapper -l it does recognize the hardware:

Code: Select all
net8192ce : driver installed
device (10EC:8178) present (alternate driver: rtl8192ce)

The OS does recognize it as a network adapter, but I cannot get anything to come up to work with it. iwconfig comes up with this:

Code: Select all
eth0      no wireless extensions.

lo        no wireless extensions.

I would be happy to provide anything else. Any help would be appreciated.

Forget the wrapper for the moment. Your card uses a Realtek rtl8188ce chipset which is supported well in Mageia. Make sure you have both the rtlwifi-firmware and the kernel-firmware-nonfree packages installed. (Available from MGAs non-free media source)

If you still have problems you can use the necessary drivers direct from realtek here.

Thanks. Away from home right now, so can't try that yet. I assumed there was a package since the source code for the GNU/Linux driver was available on the CD. I couldn't get it to compile from source. However, I didn't know the name of the package to install.

And for the ndiswrapper part, you may need to manually load ndiswrapper via
Code: Select all
modprobe ndiswrapper
before running network configuration.

Hey dok, is the ndiswrapper really even necessary for him?

No it's not necessary and i'd always recommend a native linux driver in the first place. For completeness sake, just wanted to add the information how to get it working.

You might find this thread helpful, particularly the comments about removing ndiswrapper.
