Networkmanager conflict with drak

Networkmanager conflict with drak

Postby sreejiraj » May 26th, '12, 20:52

I think it's high time we fixed the Networkmanager conflict with the built-in network configuration tool issue. I've reported this issue for Mageia 1 and I am sorry to see that it's still not fixed.

I just installed the Gnome Live CD (India version).

I usually connect through a Nokia HSPA phone.

Everything went fine and the system now runs cooler and all that. BUT, I can't tap into the network connection.

I mean:

It's got connected (using networkmanager) as it usually does. When I do ifconfig, it shows eth0, ppp and lo as up. However, when i try pinging, it says Network unreachable.

It's not a DNS issue. I tried to fix this by taking eth0 down. That didn't solve the problem.

It's properly connected, going by the ifconfig messages, but I can't get network connection for my applications.. or even to just ping. I think i pinged both as root and as a normal user.

Any ideas why network is not available?

Anyway congrats on the distribution -- works very neat.

I will confirm this problem. I connect to mobile broadband and have just installled networkmanager and it's gnome applet and i also suffer the same symptoms described. It will connect but any application that tries to use the connection will report no network connection.
I am not entirely sure it's the result of a conflict though. I have nw_applet configured to not auto start, and networkmanager still does the same thing.

Hi, i've been tinkering, and i've figured out the problem. It's not a conflict with drak. It's a conflict with the firewall. So all you need to do is configure the firewall a little (don't turn it off) and you can get it working.

Hmmm... I'm completely clueless about this stuff, but is it at all possible that the firewall could be the source of the problem some people are having with wireless connections? I had to disable the drakx tools in Mageia 2 and use network manager before my Realtec 8192CU device would connect at all reliably, but it worked fine with Mageia 1.
