HP LaserJet 1020 not working

Postby evaldas » Sep 6th, '14, 23:03

Hi,

I have just installed Mageia 4.1, but my printer doesn't work (although I somehow managed to print test page at the beggining)
There is output of hp-doctor:

Hmmm, all looks ok so far. Can you please post the contents of /var/log/cups/error_log here or attach the complete file?

Where did you get that PPD file from?

hp-doctor shall install some arbitrary ppd file for an epson printer? Nope, I don't think so :)

Maybe it was quite late yesterday, but I know I've checked one of the filenames with urpmf and got no results.
No I see that the entries are for different ppd files, which all seem to be contained in foomatic-db package.

Sorry, but I've got no clue why the printer isn't working. What is the status of the printer and the queue in cups web frontend?

interestingly today I desperately tried to do something, instaled hp pluging and sudenly was able to print some pages.
But then I begin to experiment - shutdown while printer on, etc and was not able to print again...
maybe printer memory is not emptied after compltion of job?

Re: HP LaserJet 1020 not working

yes, it looks exactly the same problem:
- I turned on my printer while mageia was runing, went to hplip status service -> hp device manager and chosed "download firmware" . After download was copleted I was able to print
- I restarted computer while priner was on, and was able to print
- I turned off and then turned on printer and then was not able to print
- I restarted computer and again downloaded firmware before printing and was able to print

So I can see two options to solve this problem:
- to keep the printer always on
- to download firmware each time I want to print

Is there any other options?

Did you check the last comments of the bug report? Fixed packages are offered there.

I saw it but I am not sure what it meant to do - download rpm file and run it in console?
