I am trying to install Epson Perfection V300 photo scanner (I used to "Xscan.." when on Linux Mint 12 without any problem)
I donwnloaded the driver, but I got lost during the installation efforts.
If possible, I need a step by step simple instruction as to how to install the scanner on Mageia 3
Tks

If you want to use the Epson proprietary packages, you must first remove the package sane-backends-iscan, if it is installed.

http://download.ebz.epson.net/faq/linux ... 00002.html

You need to download the Epson packages from:
http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... archModule

You'll be presented with a page that offers two downloads. When you click on the first Download button, you'll eventually get to a list of packages. From that list you need, for a 64 bit Mageia:

iscan-2.29.3-1.usb0.1.ltdl7.x86_64.rpm
iscan-data-1.26.0-1.noarch.rpm

Then return to the main download page and select the second download button. From the list of packages that are eventually displayed you need:

esci-interpreter-gt-f720-0.1.1-2.x86_64.rpm

If you have a 32bit Mageia, select the 386 versions of those packages.

Since that web site seems to be a bit ecentric, it may be advisable to also download the 3 relevant md5 files and check the md5sums of the downloaded rpm's.

You should then install these three packages in the following order.

iscan-data-1.26.0-1.noarch.rpm
iscan-2.29.3-1.usb0.1.ltdl7.x86_64.rpm
esci-interpreter-gt-f720-0.1.1-2.x86_64.rpm

I have a V100 and this procedure works for me (using different packages, obviously). I find the Epson Iscan front-end is a bit buggy, but Xsane and simple-scan work perfectly.

An alternative approach is described on this wiki page. Since it deals with a V370, it may, or may not, be more appropriate for your device:
