Which software do you use for scanning? Is there a specific error message?

That link lists the printer driver packages. You also need the appropriate scanner packages. You'll need the data package and the core iscan package, which should be installed in the correct order (the data package first). Scroll down on the page linked below to see the scanner packages:

http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/spc/DL2.do

To avoid conflicts, before installing the Avasys scanner packages, uninstall the Mageia sane-backends-iscan package, if it is installed.

Oh ya, one more question. What OCR do you suggest for editing? I've tried GOCR, but it has a bad result for me.

Cuneiform together with yagf as graphical frontend works really well, and also Tesseract, but this is only in a terminal

But you need good scans, and also maybe you need to convert them to black/white.

EDIT: Speaking about cuneiform and yagf, now it strikes me those are no yet available in mageia repos.
