potential for Canon PIXMA MX922 in Mageia

potential for Canon PIXMA MX922 in Mageia

Great features in this printer, and I'm interested in it. I hesitate because Canon is not exactly famous for linux support. I've seen other characterizations using "dismissive" to describe Canon's stance toward linux. So am I going to be beating my head against the wall if I get this, the latest and greatest multifunction 4-in-one?

I've done some searching and have found these tarballs on the Canon-Asia website:
cnijfilter-mx920series-3.90-1-rpm
scangearmp-mx920series-2.10-1-rpm

Are these enough to run printing, copying/scanning? Actually, I'm pretty sure VueScan will work with this printer, but I don't know whether VueScan supports auto-duplexing.

Please share opinions.

Should be possible...

Regarding scanning, download and install scangearmp from Canon. Run scangearmp from konsole (aka terminal) to launch the gui app.

EDIT: Hadn't used the scanner in awhile. Might have to add your user to the scanner group or else launch scangearmp from terminal as root.

David,

Thanks. I had seen your post and was discouraged by the number of steps. I was hoping that perhaps using the rpm command on the extracted tarball might do the trick. Apparently not.

One question about that post: I didn't see an option for a 64-bit version of the tarballs. Did you find a 64-bit version for your model, or are you referring to that version of rpm2cpio? (My system is 64-bit, too.)

Not in Mageia atm, but as I recall the tarballs contained both 32-bit and 64-bit rpm's within them.

You must first use the included USB cable connected to a PC to register the Printer on your network. Then just add printer to iPad.
